Where I Stand on Issues

Keep in mind that these are my opinions based on my perspective from the lens of a former student and community member. The Board works as a team of seven to make decisions. Because of that, if elected, I cannot promise that the District will implement these ideas. However, I would do everything I can to make these changes.

  • Community Feedback and Communication.

    • I want to increase community input to the Board and foster better communication. The District needs to gather more feedback from Students, Parents, and Community members. I know that a neighboring district is working on sending out surveys and hosting public comment forums to get community feedback for when they formulate their long-term district goals. This is something that, if elected, I want to help implement so that we can give students a learning environment that they and their families love.

  • Student Mental Health.

    • I have seen reports that disciplinary issues, depression, and other mental health-related issues have increased in students coming out of COVID. It is essential that the Board hears from families and staff as to how we can best address those issues. Also, tying back to community feedback, if elected, I would like to create a new Board Committee that hears from parents, staff, and students to figure out what emotional issues students face and how we can better address them. Solutions to this might be implementing social and emotional aspects into the curriculum, increasing support services, or something else.

  • Contract Negotiations

    • I believe the previous Sycamore Education Association contract negotiations continued for too long. I cannot say precisely what I would have done differently, as I wasn't in the negotiation room. However, I believe that aspects could have been handled or communicated better so that families did not have to face the concerns that arose. If elected, I will do my part to collaborate as a team with the other Board members, Unions, and the Administration to ensure Collective Bargaining Agreements are completed promptly and efficiently.

  • District Strategic Plan

    • I want to work with the community, teachers, administrators, and other board members to create a strategic plan with tangible goals as a district we work to accomplish. Some examples include setting a target for increasing student proficiency in classes, increasing community involvement, etcetera. Then, as a Board member, I would like to ensure that our teachers and administrators have the tools needed to meet our goals.
